What you are describing is definitely the divider that derives the octaves
of a particular note (e.g. C)

This can be handled by pretty much any common CMOS divider. As you want 8
octaves, you could probably use a 4024, which gives you seven further
stages. You would be using the output of the top octave divider to drive the
top octave. If you really do need another division stage, the CMOS 4040 will
do the job. HOWEVER there will probably be interface problems. Some of the
older dividers used odd voltages, such as +/-12V. In my organ I replaced
each failed divider chip with a 4024, though in order to drive the chip from
the top octave divider, I require a transistor buffer stage. I also require
transistor buffer stages on each and every output of the 4024, as its output
is not appropriated for the way the rest of the organ is configured. Sure,
it sounds like a bit of stuffing around, but it does work for me. The best
bet is to get a replacement chip if you can.
Check the Mitatech web site, as they also sell modules designed to replace
redundant chips.
