[sdiy] Generating notes from a source

Hello all,
I'm new to the list.
I want to create notes from a source sound and need some help
to do this.
I have been playing with a voice record and playback IC to play
a looping tone, now I need a way to use that tone to create
eight notes for a wind instrument.
What is a simple way to do this?
I'm still a little new to electronics but can get around OK.
