[sdiy] korg poly800 ii question

hi... i recently inherited a korg poly800 ii from a friend - not working,
of course.  as he looked off in the distance, he mumbled something about
"connecting it with the wrong ac adapter."

turning it on, i get no light in the display.  jim's got some schematics
at http://www.oldcrows.net/~patchell/poly800/poly800.html which are the
best scan's i've found... can anyone point me in the direction of some
possibly circuit areas to check on getting this synth running?  Could 9 or
12 v. dc with the polarity reversed be enough to fry some of the digital?
