   Has anyone ever built a tube based phaser? I hope the Metasonix
   guys have got something on the work bench... I just think phasers
   are the most wonderful analogue effects devices :)

The old Magnatone guitar amps are cherished for their tube phase
shifters.  Some models were even stereo.  You can find schematics in
any of those tube amp schematic books, and probably on the web
somewhere.
