In the classic LDR style phasers, the lag of the light dependant
resistor (and the thermal inertia of the bulb) leads to a falling off 
of modulation intensity as frequency rises. This is held to be a 
"good thing", according to people cloning them.
Perha[ps the same is true of chorus.
Maybe the ear is sensitive to (modulation frequency) X (mod intensity)?
