Yes, this is very true.  I once had the experience of standing in the 
anechoic chamber at Kawai's R&D facility in Hamamatsu, Japan.  I was standing 
in the chamber just a few feet away from one of my colleagues, and whenever 
he spoke, it was impossible to discern from which direction his voice was 
coming (except by visually confirming).  It was creepy, to say the least.  
Apparently, the process of human evolution did not anticipate the advent of 
the non-reflective acoustic environment!
