You can play the cross reference game.
Sometimes you can play the cross the cross game too.
GE, RCA, Philips and Motorola USED to have generic replacement lines.
GE had the GEIC-*** series
RCA had the SK*** series
Philips had ECG***
Motorola had HEP***
Nothing in RCA or GE catalogs
1973 HEP catalog crosses MFC6070 to a HEP C6008
1980 ECG catalog crosses MFC6070 to a ECG 769
1985 ECG catalog doesn't show ECG 769 anymore
ECG is now NTE
http://www.nteinc.com/
But no NTE 769
You can try using NTE in place of ECG and sometimes get a cross for a really
hard to find chip.
If there are any really old radio shops in town that carried ECG, they
sometimes still have really OLD stuff hanging on the wall. This is a "Hail
Mary" play, but light a candle to Saint Jude and call around for an ECG 769.
You can still get a replacement for an MFC6040, whoda thunk.
