I found that PC power supplies actually don't provide necessary voltage.

Look at the current rating for the -12v. Most are 300mA or lower.

Additionally, if you are looking at current power supplies, ATX uses a
'soft' switch, not hardwired like older AT supplies.

I actually tried using an AT supply with my EFM SBM and it just didn't have
enough power - then I used my bench power supply for the -12v (with the PC
supply at +12 and +5), and things worked fine.

Highly recommended is a small power supply at www.allelectronics.com, called
the "inexpensive 17w power supply" - they are super cheap, I wired two in
tandem so that one is negative, one is positive. Works like a charm. At
$2.50 you can't go wrong. I bought 10 of them....
