We use this kind of displays in our company for a train radio for European railways. They are quite nice as they look really cool in teh dark. On the other hand they have an effect like a burn-in: The used (lighted) parts are after a few weeks brighter than the parts that are seldom used.
We had to include a complete burn in in the service mode that lights the whole display. After about one hour all parts regain their full light intensity again.

We are using the 20x2 lines parts from Fujitsu.
They PCB is much smaller than the VFD on ebay!
