Robert, welcome to the list!
Electronotes was a newsletter that started back in the 1970s and continued
uninterrupted into the 1980s. It contained many many electronic music DIY
circuits with complete theory description. It was published by Bernie
Hutchins who still sells them in volumes and complete sets. Unfortunately I
don't have Bernie's address on hand. Just a warning, I have heard from
others who are still waiting on their orders. Apparently this depends on
what Bernie has on hand and what he has to copy. I had no problem getting
the first few volumes of Electronotes recently.
There are also many web resources available to get you started. A search on
the Synth DIY archive ( http://www.buchi.de/sdiy/ ) will get you on the
right track.
A good, comprehensive starting reference for analog design is Horowitz and
Hill's Art of Electronics.
