[sdiy] 301 and 741, and the difference?

Here's one for you all I've been meaning to ask about:
what's the diff. between the 301 and the 741 type op
amp. In some circuits if I replace the 301a with a
741/081 type device the results are usually crap.
Circuits I've done this with are Arp analogue noise
and The Oberheim SEM filter. Just curious, others may
find this useful too...
