Actually do not lose hope on this theory.  I got my floor rack, which appears to be about what your're looking for, except it's on rollers, from IBM for 50 bucks.  I just called around town until someone went, "yeah we're got something like that in a closet..."  That was in Vermont, (not the tech capital of the world).  So this could happen anywhere.
