Grandma... GRANDMA ???
Grandma had a shortwave, young'un .... Tubes... 'ya know ??? ;^)
Seriously... identifying a germanium diode by the glass case is
a big mistake. Lots of silicon diodes have identical cases... especially
those from the same era of manufacture.
Look for voltage drop. Some meters will identify this with a diode test
(Fluke for instance) Germanium is about .3V, silicon about .7V
Schottky diodes will meter low also... maybe .4V
