I personally hate them.... maybe its because I keep running up massive bills. Or I just value my privacy enough to not want to be reached all the time. If anyone could think of some ideas using parts from these...the more "out there" the better..I'd appreciate it.
Hello,
I can only speak for the Qualcomm phones specifically but they're all
similar. I'd bet there isn't too much under the hood for the S-DIY'er
specifically - lots of high freq. RF specific components (SAW filters,
duplexors, VCOs {not the kind we want}, etc), ASICs - lots of 'em, some
digital stuff but nothing generic, and lots of 0402 and 0603 discrete
components. The one I'm looking at right now does have some tiny
voltage regulators on it but they're mostly 3.0 volts and the like.
None too good for home brew synth stuff. You could scavenge some larger
SMT caps....
If you want to make some super secret neato spy toys (bugs, trackers,
communcators, etc) then you've got an awesome storehouse of goodies in
there! Wish I had the test equipment at home to play with that stuff
(and two years of free time).
Oh wait... you said "out there". You could try running one of the RF
mixers at audio and see if it works - you'd have a ring modulator with
really poor rejection specs (by audio standards). If it's a newer model
those mixers may be inside an ASIC though...
Have fun!
