Have a look at the synth called "Rick's Modular" on the following page:

What do they sound like? Well this one was rather impressive, however any
similar modular with similar modules would sound... well... similar. It
doesn't have anything particularly unique to make it stand out. Circuit
boards are still available from RCS radio in Australia, though some of the
chip are not, such as the 4416. Ways around can be found. 

I have a number of modules in my synth from the ETI design. The most
annoying thing is it is linear, not 1 V/oct.

You would be better off building a pair of ASM-1 these days.
