I've been doing a bunch with pc and atari based CV controllers.  Its often an issue of finding which pin is for +v which is for ground and then attaching the jacks to the x and y.  I use a 10k resistor to the ground pin the other end to a 9v battery or supply.  Also all the grounds from the jacks (I use 1/4 in) go on the pin side of the 10k res.
