[sdiy] small mixer circuits (or other small circuits)

Hi folks,
For my first "real" DIY project, I'm considering adding a few circuits
to the Paia 9700 that I'm finishing up. I'd like to add
some simple additional functions for which I can fit panel controls into
the two blank end plates of the unit. This means I
have about 1 1/2 inches by 3U of space on each end. I'd like to find
things that use jacks only, or only one or two pots. I'm considering a
sample and hold circuit, a ring mod circuit (even though there is one
already, using it gobbles up a VCA), or some simple mixing circuits.
I'd like to get pointers to any simple mixers that would meet these
requirements. I'm thinking of a simple
two-in one-out panner with a single pot, a simple VCA with one or even
no pots, or things of this sort. I've done some poking around on DIY
sites, but everything I've found so far is too complicated (i.e., has
too many controls for the space I have). I'd really appreciate any
pointers to circuits, or suggestions for other sorts of things I might
use my bitty panel space for/ Also, any tips on "squeezing" are most
welcome!
Thanks,
Elby
