[sdiy] replacing step incrementor/decrementor with continuous pot

You could use a rotary encoder (easy, not cheap) and decode the
direction (a D flip flop works) then use the pulses to drive analog
switches in parallel with the pushbuttons, or gates. All hardware, no code
