[sdiy] replacing step incrementor/decrementor with continuous pot

Hey, hope that subject line made sense. I'm wishing to replace the 
"step button" style editing controls on my K3m and Tx81z with a 
Variable pot instead. I don't know how hard this is to implement, 
though the keyboard version of the K3 had a data slider instead of 
step buttons, and the dx-100 (kinda the keyboard version of the 
Tx-81z) also used a data slider.

Can someone point me into the right direction, schematic wise, and 
maybe point out the methodology behind performing this sought of 
modification. I just can't get down with this "step up, step down" 
clownin' around :)
