I'm more of the lo-fi sort. I've had decent success with a beat up Boss OC-2. I first saw Bassist Joe Sallins using it with a bass. He was backing Tony Vacca at a clinic and was using piccolo range strings. He had three effects.... Boss Metal Zone, chorus and the Boss OC-2. He did some high end soloing with the Metal Zone and would swap back to the bass range.
I use it on my Strat... It can be muddy in some ranges like for chords, but if you tweak the direct level just right it can be rewarding.
If you are into (real)reel to reel echo... I was patching my old akai and had the Boss-OC in the middle of a patch from Left out to right in. You could hear the initial note in its proper range and all the delays were lower and descending till it went out of range. (Check out the Optimus karaoke voice canceller for a cheaper echo)
One other thing about the Boss OC-2 is that if you bend a lot or do certain intervals it will freak a bit. I consider this a bonus effect...others call it noise or limited tracking abilities.
Thats all I got... well........
Later,
Nick P
