[sdiy] hello, and a few questions

Hi folks! I'm brand new to the list, as well as to the DIY world (and
electronics in general). I've been playing synths for many years, and
recently decided it would be fun to start to assemble my own. I'm
finishing up the Paia 9700 modular, which went very well (except for a
few niggling problems still in testing!), and I really enjoyed it.

Now I want to get into more extended projects. I've decided that some
test equipment would be a good idea. Web searching led me to conclude
that the Tektronix 465B was a good piece of gear, and I've just acquired
one at auction (should be getting this in the next week). It comes
without probes or manual, and I'm guessing may require some
calibration. I'm looking for opinions/recommendations/sources for
these. What would a good compatible set of probes be? Is one probe
sufficient? Is there anywhere I can order a manual (they do show up on
ebay, but it's hit-or-miss)? Will I need a function generator to
calibrate it? If so, any suggestions? Anything else I really should
have? Of course, I'd like to pick up the "accessories" without spending
a fortune, but I don't want to skimp to the point I'll end up
frustrated. Any tips are most welcome! :)

One last question: is there a digest for of this list? I didn't see
any mention of it at the "Synth DIY mailing list" page. I'm not sure
how heavy the traffic is here, but I find digest forms generally work
best for me.

Thanks very much,
Elby
