Ahh, there are still interesting diy projects to be done - this is amazing !
I wish you all the best for this project. Even though I have two of these
boards in working condition in my studio, I don't know what I would do
if one of these custom chips would fail one day.

I'm not entirely sure here, but I think the 8th channel will also be
adressed
when there is only *one* other note held. At least when I'm tuning my
CS-60 (too often !), I can press a single key repeatedly and 7 M boards
will be adressed one by one. To tune the 8th board, I have to hold *one*
key and play a second one. Then releasing the first and holding the second
one, I always have M board number 8.
