You may want to cover the transistor leads with the goop after soldering them into
the board. This will prevent drifting air from causing a differential. When I first
worked on early miniMoogs, I used old toothpaste caps filled with heat sink compound
to cover the transistor pairs all the way down to the board. It seemed to make a
noticable improvement.
