Are these the words of experience, Paul?
I do remember many years ago, while I was an apprentice, I came across an
oldish opamp, LM308 IIRC, that didn't like its comp pins briefly touching
+ve supply ... resulting in a little black volcano erupting from the top
of the chip, complete with smoke. Needless to say as a budding engineer I
had to repeat this little experiment several times just to confirm that it
wasn't a one-off!!!
