[sdiy] LED backlit panels

Well, I started trying to make a back-lit panel.

I am using .25" Lucite and  T1 3/4  Super Bright Blue LEDs.

I placed the LED's on the .25" edge of the panel.
The LEDs just barely fit in the side of the glass.

I am then placing a design on top. 
The design is printed on contact paper using a HP laser printer.

The problem is that the toner is not dark enough to make the design
parts appear black. 

Any ideas?
