Yeah, the metal zone is *seriously* overdriven, especially when it comes to 
the high end..sounds rather cheesy. The pedal I've used the most for 
distortion is the DOD FX86, AKA "Death Metal"...that thing has more low end 
you can shake a stick at, enough that people comment on it when I play 
through it. I'll have to open it up to see what makes it tick. It's not a 
pedal for playing blues or jazz through, but works really well for playing 
things like, well..death metal, with the "chugga chugga" palm muted sound. 
I've been tossing my Juno-2 and DX-7 through it lately, with interesting 
results. Never found anything that comes even close for a low end sound that 
causes  everything nearby to start shaking.
