Hydrochloric acid (HCl) doesn't etch *borosilicate* glass for sure. As for
other kinds I don't know. Results may vary.
All I've ever seen for etching glass is the paste stuff in a tube, and
commercial HFl etching. And sandblasting, of course.
You don't want to play around with anything that has loose fluorine atoms...
