For the nice big panel you are thinking about I wouldn't go any thinner
than 3mm.
I prefer 2.5mm for my MOTM compatible 2U wide panels, but all my bigger
19" rack stuff is 3mm. And it still flexes, so be careful and use the
other parts of the case for strength.
