Why is it that so many PDF files seem to be problematic? Is there maybe inconsistency between file types maybe? I'm always coming across currupted ones that Acrobat won't process.
What I find annoying is that Acrobat will show you nuffink at all if the file is corrupted, and offers no means of recovering it. I don't know if this is any use to anyone, but ages ago I used to have Ghostscript reader which always seemed to display most of a PDF file even if it was sniffed at by Acrobat.
Maybe try Ghostscript? Just a thought, anyway.
