now I'm really talking to myself...scary...

Okay, I took another look at:

and realized what I was really looking at.  If I'm assuming 
correctly, the 4051 *is* the sp8t solid state switch I was asking 
about.  Silly me.

So would I duplicate the 4051 for different uses, run several of them 
in parallel off the same digital pulses?

Like have one feeding a vco and each knob sets a different pitch, 
then have another with the eight knobs setting on time of a one-shot 
555, then have yet another driving eight LEDs for a visual on my 
eight steps..?  I don't need any buffering do I?  I'm really new to 
this stuff.
