    I am a real begininer at all of this stuff but I had the idea a while back
to make an analog quantiser from a bunch of comparators. The voltage steps would
not be very accurate. The basic circuit was taken from the Forest Mims book and
supposed to be an LED bar graph.

    I showed this to the list and a lot of people suggested using an LM3914,
LM3915 or LM3916 Dot/Bar Display Driver. Find the data sheet for this one, I can
email it you if you like.
