Without looking at the solder joints, it's hard to say for sure, but the gold
color you mention may be flux. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to use
some flux remover on the entire board (if you haven't already done so).
Also...you mentioned reworking the joints on the tempo/clock section of the
board...you should probably do the entire synth if there are more cold solder
joints elsewhere. These little buggers can cause all kinds of weird
intermittent problems.
