Here's my £0.02 FWIW, for like you I have been dreaming of building a synth
for many years.
Why build one? the main reason for me is that, although it will probably
work out a LOT more expensive than buying something ready made, I can do it
a bit at a time as and when funds are available. I've waited 25+ years to
get going again; a few more aint' really gonna make that much odds.
What to build? I think here that Dave Krooshof is right on the money. The
plan is everything. I've spent months checking out what is available,
defining and refining my requirements and come up with something that will
work for me. The list has been a great help and knowing that the people who
have designed most of what I plan on using are out there and [from what I've
seen on the list so far] willing to offer help, advice and encouragement,
gives me a nice warm feeling.
Keep the faith...
