[sdiy] Virus Warning for the synth-DIY folk...

Hi all,

I just discovered that my PC was infected with the SirCam worm. I thought it
appropriate to warn other list members, since it might have been sent to
other member's addresses held within my contacts list...

The SirCam comes with an attachment. Both message body and attachment can
vary, could be in English or Spanish. The attachment ends with .doc.pif and
could be a covering letter or something, in my case it was a CV.
Unfortunately I was stupid enough to open it, despite the dodgy looking .pif
extension! The message title was 'Curriculum Vitie'. I don't think it is
very destructive. It resends itself to other contacts within the Outlook
contacts list.

For information and the fix program, go visit:

http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html

I used the fix supplied from above and it reports to have successfully
removed the worm, though I did have to run the PC in safe mode before the
fix was able to delete one of the associated files.

Regards, Trev
