[sdiy] banana sockets: advantages/disadvantages

Hi all, I was just checking a photo of serge modular
gear and i noticed the extensive use of banana sockets
on that stuff. Ages ago, I built a modular which used
bananas and always found there to be considerable
cross-talk within the patching system. At one point, I
could pick up local radio!
Do you use a separate earth connector? Or what!
So, if any one can elaborate on the
advantages/disadvantages, I for one would find that
most interesting!
