I would look at catalogs to find another transformer of the same approx
size and type, and look at the wattage (current X voltage).

Your unknown tranny will have something like this wattage so you can see
what current gives the same wattage for it.
This isn't infallible, but gets you into the ballpark. Worked for me more
than once!
