Yes, you're right. The Elektor vocoder for instance features 8 bands
from 260 to 3900 Hz.
In my project, there are 17 bands in the 100 / 4000 Hz range, which is
even better.
Freqs above that will be handled by the white noise generator & the
voice/devoice detector.
