[sdiy] OT: How would you define "cheesy" ?

This actually got me thinking. I usually use the term when referring to a
particular sound that is overused. The first thing that comes to mind is the
DX-7 EP sound. (Witness Kenny Kirkland's solo in "Shadows in the Rain" off
of 'Dream Of The Blue Turtles' by Sting. Great solo, but the pitchbends kill
it for me.) I don't normally think of any particular synth as cheesy, as I
am a great fan of uncommon synths. (e.g. I actually own, and use with
abandon, a Moog CDX, which would be cheesy by anyone's definition, but in
context is a rather usefull piece of gear.)

I guess it depends on the person, but I submit that the afore-mentioned DX-7
EP sound, hard sync solo sounds, overdriven solid-state organ, Moog modular
tuba (as in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"), the Fairlight flute, and anything
that comes out of an M1 all qualify as cheesy.
