Yes, but I have no choice when a digest user replies to a message and his
subject line says something cryptic like:

   Re: [sdiy] Digest 2001-01-25

And worse yet, if you read his message, it will often contain replies to
several discrete messages within his single, composite reply. In other
words, his subject line no longer matches the original message or even the
content of his reply, and all threading is broken.

Some of us keep a lot of older emails on our computer, for reference. If a
person has replied to a message he received in digest mode, it will be
nearly impossible to find his reply at a later time, by simply perusing
one's collection of subject lines. Subject lines from digest users will
have no direct association with the actual subject (or subjects) within
their messages.

Some people think that digest mode will make their lives easier, but I
think these people would be far better served with message filtering
performed by their email software. There are free email clients that
perform filtering, so money for decent email software shouldn't be an
issue. I think one person on this list has said that Netscape will perform
filtering. Another has said that Pine will filter also. Both these programs
are free, and between them, they are available on nearly any computer
platform. I'm sure there are other programs available as well.

So now, I hope you understand my dread of people using digest mode.

Later,
Glen
