If we talk tantalium caps, then the reason is pretty simple - they are
non-linear like hell. I rulled them out of the audio-path many, many
years ago, but now when you bring it up, maybe they are god for some
specific purposes... so yes, they colour the sound.

It is a simple thing to run caps so that they are driven by a sinus
source at some frequency and then one looks at the spectrum and XY
the waveform. Hmm... this sounds like a simple enougth setup to do.
