Yes. Especially in tube equipment, with high voltages and
high circuit impedances involved. Most audiophile tube
amps use polypropylene caps with special noninductive windings.
Some of them, such as the high-cost MusiCap, have smaller
bypass capacitors built in. Why? Because it sounds good--to
some people. Tastes vary.
"Archaic" paper-oil types are becoming increasingly popular with
the rise of the single-ended triode amp.
Orange Drops are popular with guitarists for guitar amps,
although this is starting to change.
