There's no need to sort messages by hand - that's why computers were invented!
:)
I also lamented the lack of a digest format for this list, but then I learned
about "message filtering." I use Netscape for my mail program, and it has a
feature that lets you filter messages and do some action based upon the contents
of the message. So, I created a folder called "Synth-DIY" and told Netscape to
move any message coming into my Inbox into Synth-DIY if the message had
"owner-synth-diy at node12b53.a2000.nl" in the "Sender:" field of the header.
(Michael, if you use Netscape, contact me off-list and I can explain exactly how
to set it up.) I know that MS Outlook also has a message-filtering feature, and
I assume any decent mail program will allow you to do this. With all of the
Synth-DIY mail in a single folder, I can then view the messages as threaded,
something you can't do with a digest. It's also easy to create a new folder and
copy/move messages into it for archiving.
BUT, for the record, I do support the idea of a digest format, if the list admin
is willing to set it up. I just wanted to point out that there are other ways
of dealing with the high traffic of this list.
