Ok, I'll ask a dumb question here...
Michael's request here is fairly common, no matter what email list you
subscribe to...
I would think someone could create an "email reflector" that would receive
emails append them to each other and then send them out to a target
address at predefined intervals.... that or just catalog them for later
retrieval. Add some advertising and you have a perhaps profitable
business model?

Subject: All Synth DIY List members, please read

Hello list,

I have been participating on this list since late 1995, and it is, without
a
doubt, one of the most wonderful things that the Internet has ever brought

into my life. However, in the few last years, not only has list traffic
increased, but my available time to devote to reading and participating
has
decreased.

For some time now, I have wished that we could receive the list mail in a
"daily digest" form. For me, this would greatly simplify the process of
reading, managing, and archiving the list messages. I also participate in
a
few other mailing lists, most of which emanate from the egroups mailing
list
empire (such as the MOTM list, Tom G's EFM list, etc.). I receive each of

these in digest form, and it makes it very easy to quickly go through the
messages and put them into a chronological archive for future reference.

For those who may not know, a daily digest is a single, large email that
you
receive once a day which contains all of the list's email messages for the

preceding 24 hours. When you subscribe to a list, you choose whether you
wish to receive the messages as separate emails or as one daily digest.

I do like the other lists that I receive, but Synth-DIY is absolutely the
most important list for me. Unfortunately, it's also the one that is
constantly clogging my mailbox as well as making me spend hours sorting,
compiling, and archiving message threads. It truly breaks my heart to say

this, but my life has now come to a point where if I cannot receive the
DIY
mail in archive form, then I will be forced to quit the list. Believe me,
I
have come to love this group of people, and I have even developed a
certain
emotional attachment to the list and its participants. Having to walk
away
from the list would be a very difficulty and very, very unhappy
experience.

I am quite convinced that I am not the only person on this list who would
prefer to receive a digest. In fact, I am guessing that there are quite a

few of you who want this, and I'm sure that there also have been many who
subscribed, then later unsubscribed after they realized that the volume of

list mail was just too difficult to manage.

I am writing this to take a poll to find out how many of the current list
members would, like me, prefer to receive a daily list digest, instead of
a
confusing, constant barrage of individual emails. If you think you would
prefer a digest, please take a moment to respond to this mail, either
privately to me, or on the list. I will compile the results of the poll
and
relay the information to Rick. If the numbers are great enough, maybe he
could be persuaded to make this important change to his list server.

I am extremely grateful for everything that Rick has done for the group,
starting with the very creation of this amazing list. For that, he is to
be
very highly praised. I know that he probably has quite enough to do in
his
life without having to come up with special new software for adding a
digest
mode to his list server, but I hope he can seriously consider this
request,
and that he does not take this as criticism. If any of you agree with me
about this issue, please respond as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Michael Bacich
