I only have one all-analogue phaser, an ibanez, which has a "manual" control that alters the centre-point of the lfo sweep. most of the dsp phasers (in alesis, boss etc rack multi-effects) have a similar tweak. in the case of the ibanez, this knob still does something when the depth is turned right off. the phaser is capable (though I think I'm responsible) of self-oscillation too, which is a good noise for a tiny cheap stomp box.
seems to me all you have to do is add or subtract some dc to/from the lfo cv. some other phasers I've encountered (and linc- you must've seen a few in y'r time too; I saw those cupboards of robin's....) "swing wider" at different speeds, like the lfo amplitude isn't constant with frequency.
check this thing out- not strictly a phaser but it could be turned into one and it's simple-ish.
