there must be a better way of doing things than LDR's these are just 
cheating.!:) we really need to be thinking in terms of inherent 
characteristics of tubes that can be used to advantage. such as a variable 
transconductance with grid bias or something like that. one thing was used 
in the old days for radio transmitter phase modulating was to vary the shunt 
resistance across a reractance ie tube functioning as a volt vari res across 
a cap.. seen the same thing done with fets.. I'll think about it a bit 
more..
