Discrete BBD

I have seen, in real-life, a commercially produced voltage controlled variable delay line using discrete components. of course, the maximum delay was about 5uS, this being part of a timebase corrector on a 1960s broadcast video recorder made by ampex. it didn't look as though it would cost much to make, being mostly c's and diodes, but even this relatively short delay took up most of a 2U box.......
