Hal's book is an all-around good guide for folks interested in building
synths...and it covers more than just DSP stuff. The sections on analog
circuits were some of the first to break down some of the "voodoo" (expo.
converters anyone?) in a way I could understand.
There are some other good resources, if you've got a good library around. 2
journals that regularly cover these sorts of topics: the Journal of the
Audio Engineering Society, and the Computer Music Journal. Older JAES may
be particularly helpful, and the CMJ usually discusses DSP theory to some
degree in almost every issue.
If you can find the Electronotes publications, there has been some
discussion of digital techniques there.
There was also a book with a focus on some audio/music related DSP coverage,
Digital Signal Processing Primer by Steiglitz.
