more broken stuff!

I just got my old Fender eighty five guitar amplifier back from a friend.  
but it's broken.  when plugged in, I hit the switch but it doesn't turn on.  
power goes through the cable and to and from the switch,  the fuse looks 
intact (the squiggly silver thread is still intact) but the unit doesn't turn 
on.  any ideas?  any tips so I don't kill myself messing with this amp?
