another interesting thing I found on the dividers idea is the 'trip-flip'.. 
a 3 state flipflop... uses a single 12ax7 etc twin diode and some res, 
diode, cap.. has 3 stable states which are clocked in the standard manner.. 
one day I'll get around to designing a transistor vers too.. I can send 
diagram to people if interesrted later in the wk when I get my scanner
