modules with different tubes?

The BlueBox is an elegent design... far more sophisticated than it looks.
I did a spice sim of it... and it worked like shit ! I had designed the model
to be simplified... using a bipolar supply and eliminating the bias components.

So I did an exact copy and that worked. There is interaction between stages
via the bias supply. Lucky Accident... or Careful Planning ??? This made it
work much better.

As you know I've got a system running using the Gold patent / New England Digital.

It excells in not skipping octaves. Where it "should" skip the octave, it reverses
phase
of the square wave instead. MUCH less annoying than the octave jump.

The BlueBox works "ok" IMHO. I agree about the neck pickup... and the roll off.
But
I also find it works best when you get from about the 5th to 12th fret. I believe
this is
a combination of pickup position, and what harmonics are lost at that position.
The
best might be to use a pickup such as the Fishman or similar... mounted in the
bridge
saddles... with HUGE gain and rolloff....
